About Us

The Second Cavalry Association was founded in 1899, after the Spanish-American War. It is a private organization of individuals who have served with the regiment. It stands today as the first and oldest veteran's organization established around a particular unit.

The Association's Mission is three fold; Preserve and Share Our History, Support our veterans, and to Support Our Regiment whenever the need arises.

Membership is open to any member or former member of the Regiment, and includes a subscription to the official Association newsletter, The Thoroughbred. In addition members can participate in our rapidly growing on line community. The on line community consists of a family of websites (see list below) where members can keep up with events and activities of the Active Regiment as well as our veterans. In addition they can learn about our history, chat with other Dragoons - past and present, renew memberships and purchase 2d Cavalry kit from our on line store.

During that last ten years we have conducted five marvelous Reunions, we have seen multiple deployments of the 2d Cavalry Regiment to Iraq and Afghanistan, countries throughout Europe and the Middle East as well as the joyful Regimental homecomings in Vilseck.

The Association funded the construction of the memorial in Vilseck to our fallen brothers. In that process we overcame the prohibition that forbid on post memorials and set a standard for all other combat units to emulate. We have recently renovated and updated the memorial in recognition of our brothers lost in Afghanistan.

Our team also provided direct support for the Regiment's wounded (and their families) at Walter Reed and other United States based hospitals. We focused on insuring that these soldiers were not only not forgotten but properly cared for and recognized for their sacrifice. This will be an ongoing function during all future combat deployments of the Regiment..

An example of our support for our wounded warriors is raising $3,500 to assist SSG Mike Minard to construct a specially adapted home. Mike was serving in 1st Squadron when he lost both legs above the knees in Iraq in 2007.

In addition, we provide annual scholarships for advanced education to worthy recipients including active duty personnel and their families. Our most recent scholarships totaled $2,500.

Through our on line store we continue to provide our "Dragoons" with all the necessary accoutrements of a cavalryman most notability the Stetson's and spurs that symbolize our traditions and heritage. Our objective is to make our store the "go to store" for our members as we make our products more and more price competitive with other sources.

We know that you are proud of your service in the Regiment and we hope that you will continue to support our efforts and the 2d Cavalry Community with your membership in the association.

Toujours Prêt!
