Another empty place at our table with the passing of a leader, mentor, historian, writer and my friend.
Ned was born in Portland on August 17, 1940. Ned attended seven different colleges and universities before graduating Magna Cum Laude from the University of Minnesota in 1985 with Departmental Honors in History.
In February 1959 Ned enlisted in the United States Army. His first duty assignment was with the 3rd Squadron 2d Armored Cavalry Regiment in Amberg. Ned loved Amberg and Gearhart as his favorite small towns the rest of his life. His final Army assignment was as the Command Sergeant Major of the 3d Squadron 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment.
He is survived by his wife of [55 years] Doris who he met while assigned to West Berlin, his son Edmund IV (wife Rebecca), granddaughter Dorian (Concord, NC), grandson Levi (Depauw, IN) and the twin grandchildren Josie and Hunter both of Portland. His great grandson Cohen (Depauw, IN) and he will soon have a second great grandson that will live here in Portland.
There will be a Visitation located at Lincoln Memorial and Funeral Services, 11801 SE Mt Scott Blvd., Portland,OR 97086 that will start at 10:00 am on the 18th of March. The Funeral Services will start at noon and a graveside Military service is scheduled for the Willamette National Cemetery on Mount Scott March 18th at 1:30 pm.
